This body of work revolves around Turrell’s own dystopia, using performance and moving image to translate her own personal experiences. Under the submission to men in Turrell’s life as an artist, a photographer, a student and a young woman. Chaos of a Quiet Mind gives her the expression and stage persona she yearns for. As said by Eikoh Hosoe’s model – Yukio Mishima, “I will give myself up to you as the subject matter for your camera. I want to feel free to use me as you see fit.” Within photography focusing on the notion of the female muse and its intersection with every utopia there is dystopia.
